Sci Fi Movie Posters.. 70s and 80s..

We all remember them.. Growing up, looking at them with an air of apprehension, fear, excitement and make believe.. 70s and 80s sci fi movie posters boomed in the late 70s partially due to Stars Wars success. Largely forgotten now, heres our favourites and why

2010.. The year we make Contact.. Featus, darkness , planets.. When your 9yrs old its nightmare territory.. Made in 1984 American science fiction film written and directed by Peter Hyams. It is a sequel to Stanley Kubrick‘s 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, and is based onArthur C. Clarke‘s novel 2010: Odyssey Two. It was nominated for five academy awards Best Art Direction (Albert Brenner and Rick SimpsonBest Makeup (Michael Westmore, Best Visual EffectBest Costume Design (Patricia Norris) Best Sound Presentation (Michael J. KohutAaron RochinCarlos Delarios and Gene Cantamessa)

Mad Max.. When you hear the name Mel Gibson, you think Mad Max.. Made in 1979, it depicted what we all thought life in Australia was like and how the future would unfold.. It became a top-grossing Australian film, holding the Guinness record for most profitable film for decades and has been credited for further opening up the global market to Australian New Wave films. The first film in the seriesMad Max, spawned sequels Mad Max 2 (a.k.a. The Road Warrior) in 1981 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome in 1985. A fourth installment, Mad Max: Fury Road starring Tom Hardy as Max, is scheduled for release in May 2015.

Brazil.. British Sci Fi Film made in 1985.. We weren’t great at sci fi films but the poster was memorable. Probably one of de niro films he will want to forget. Directed by Terry Gilliam and written by Gilliam, Charles McKeown, and Tom StoppardBritish National Cinema by Sarah Street describes the film as a “fantasy/satire on bureaucratic society” while John Scalzi‘s Rough Guide to Sci-Fi Movies describes it as a “dystopian satire”. The film stars Jonathan Pryce and features Robert De NiroKim GreistMichael PalinKatherine HelmondBob Hoskins, and Ian Holm.

The film centres on Sam Lowry, a man trying to find a woman who appears in his dreams while he is working in a mind-numbing job and living a life in a small apartment, set in a consumer-driven dystopian world in which there is an over-reliance on poorly maintained (and rather whimsical) machines. Brazil ’s bureaucratic, totalitarian government is reminiscent of the government depicted in George Orwell‘s Nineteen Eighty-Four,[1][2] except that it has a buffoonish, slapstick quality and lacks a Big Brother figure.

Capricorn One is thematically a typical 1970s government-conspiracy thriller with similarities to Hyams’s subsequent film Outland. Made in 978 thriller movie about a Mars landing hoax. It was written and directed by Peter Hyams and produced by Lew Grade‘s (British) ITC Entertainment. It stars Elliott Gould with James BrolinSam Waterston and O. J. Simpson as the astronauts.

Logans Run.. We need to watch this 70s classic..  American science fiction film directed by Michael Anderson[3] and starring Michael YorkJenny AgutterRichard JordanRoscoe Lee BrowneFarrah Fawcett, and Peter Ustinov. The screenplay byDavid Zelag Goodman is based on the novel of the same name by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. It depicts a dystopian future society in which population and the consumption of resources are managed and maintained in equilibrium by the simple expedient of killing everyone who reaches the age of thirty, preventing overpopulation. The story follows the actions of Logan 5, a “Sandman”, as he runs from society’s lethal demand.

1997.. Escape from New york.. 1981 this was made.. Probably more remember for the statue of Libertys head laying in the middle of what looks like 5th Ave, we like this poster for its sci fi relevance at the dawn of the 80s.. Co-written, co-scored, and directed by John Carpenter. The film is set in a then near-future 1997 in a crime-ridden United States that has convertedManhattan Island in New York City into a maximum security prison. Ex-soldier Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) is given 22 hours to find the President of the United States (Donald Pleasence), who has been captured by prisoners after the crash of Air Force One.

Carpenter wrote the film in the mid-1970s as a reaction to the Watergate scandal. After the success of Halloween, he had enough influence to get the film made and shot most of it in St. Louis, Missouri.[3] The film is co-written with Nick Castle, who already collaborated with Carpenter previously by portraying Michael Myers in the 1978 film Halloween.

Flash Gordon. Costumes, Music, Good vs Evil, Lazer guns and the soundtrack from Queen.. Need we say anymore.. Britian’s best sci fi movie to date..

Alien.. The notion of less is more, meaning the artwork kept you guessing, and put pre perceived fear into the film. Any other cover would have softened the impact.. Sci fi meets Horror, the first film of its kind beaming iconic.. Made in 1979 science-fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott, and starring Tom SkerrittSigourney WeaverVeronica CartwrightHarry Dean StantonJohn HurtIan Holm and Yaphet Kotto. The film’s title refers to a highly aggressive extraterrestrial creature that stalks and kills the crew of a spaceship.

Back To The Future 2… Everything worked right for this sequel including the artwork. Made in 1989 so just making the cut, it became the best film in the three part trilogy with the best artwork to match. t was directed by Robert Zemeckis, who directed all three films, scripted by Bob Gale, and stars Michael J. FoxChristopher LloydThomas F. Wilson and Lea Thompson. The plot of Part II picks up where the original film left off. After repairing the damage to history done by his previous time traveladventures, Marty McFly (Fox) and his friend Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown (Lloyd) travel to 2015 to prevent McFly’s future son from ending up in jail. However, their presence allows Biff Tannen (Wilson) to steal Doc’s DeLorean time machine and travel to 1955, where he alters history by making his younger self wealthy.

Bladerunner.. The film is more iconic than the poster.. It want one that put the fear of God into you as a child at 7 yrs old.. Perhaps blowing up a picture of Rutger Hauer, may have done the job.. The film depicts a dystopian Los Angeles in November 2019, in which genetically engineered replicants, which are visually indistinguishable from adult humans, are manufactured by the powerful Tyrell Corporation as well as by other “mega-corporations” around the world. Their use on Earth is banned and replicants are exclusively used for dangerous, menial, or leisure work on off-world colonies. Replicants who defy the ban and return to Earth are hunted down and “retired” by special police operatives known as “Blade Runners”. The plot focuses on a desperate group of recently escaped replicants hiding in Los Angeles and the burnt-out expert Blade Runner, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who reluctantly agrees to take on one more assignment to hunt them down.
